Confronting Your Giant

By the grace of God, what we shall be talking about today is confronting your giant. Our first part was "All in All," and last week we talked about "The Weary and the Worry," and I believe what God has in store for us today is what will give us the audacity to take charge and confront our giant.

As it is known that, until a person confronts his giant and says no to their giants and tormentors, such a person will continue to be under the oppression of what is said to be your giant. We have seen the likes of Goliath to the people of Israel, Pharaoh to the Israelites, and many more from the word of God.

But before we proceed further, we are going to understand who giants are. Who are giants? What is their purpose? Why do they exist? When do they like to take over? These questions needed to be asked rhetorically so that you may know how to strap yourself very well and take charge so they do not have a say over your lives anymore.

From the Bible perspective, giants are said to be legendary figures described as unusually tall, mighty warriors, some with six feet and six legs, such as Goliath. Some are the Nephilims and the Anakims.

Also, giants can be said to be whatever brings inconvenience and chaos into someone's life, such as sickness that are not leaving your body, terminal disease, afflictions that are rising over and over again, generational battles that go from one to another, sinful pleasures and lust someone keeps falling into, problems in finances and homes, and more like it.

These among many are giants, and what they've come to do is to torment, torture, form confederacy to take possession of what God has called your possessions. And the most annihilating part of their operation is that they are devourers who will not hesitate to ruin everything God has put in your care when they are in charge.

Just like the devil their father, who has come to steal, kill, and destroy, these giants are not different from the devil their father, but we have to give thanks to God for having Jesus as a permanent solution to all that might have been charging at us.

So today, God helping us, the word of God coming to us should help us, give us wings and boldness to confront our giant, to say to our giants, "Enough of you taking charge of our territory."

From where we read in the book of Judges 3, after the Israelites did evil in the sight of the Lord, the Lord strengthened the enemies against them who became giants that they could not confront for a certain time—18 years to be precise—not until they made their supplication known to God and God raised up a deliverer who goes by the name Ehud on their behalf.

That said, one thing we must know is that, most of the time we are the ones who invited our giants to our lives. We are the ones who allow God to strengthen our giants against us, for they know they cannot do anything except God allowed it, for our shortcomings gives them the upper hand to overpower us.

But as we all know, our God is a merciful God whose ears are not deafened so that He will not hear. Hence the reason He hearkens to the voice of the ones who cry unto Him for wisdom, for power, for strategies to confront and overcome their giants.

And that is why, for someone who is willing to take charge, confronting your giant is a must. But before that can be done, you must be sure that you have already secured a spot in operating in the power and the wisdom of the Most High.

Is there any great man or successful woman who does not have a story, an encounter of a giant in his or her life? Very rare, right? Because the devil doesn't take it easy with people with glory and great destiny. And the Bible says the kingdom of God suffers violence and only the violent take it by force.

So just like it is for the kingdom of God, so it is for your life, so it is for your glory, your future and destiny. You must equip yourself, confront your giants, and overcome your giant if you want to get to your destination, if you want to get to your promised land, if you do not want to be terrified or oppressed any longer, if you would take charge of what God has apportioned to you.

For lives that have not risen to his or her dreams and vision are still going through a phase in life, and every phase comes with its own giant. And inability to confront giants is what makes people become stuck in a particular phase.

Just like what we see here, Eglon the king of Moab was strengthened to oppress the people of Israel, and they were stuck in the same phase of enslavement for 18 years, not until God raised up Ehud, the son of Gera, to confront this giant called Eglon.

Those things that rose up against you that you could not overcome easily are giants, but I am here to announce to you today that you are taking charge again irrespective of what your giant is, in Jesus' name. Amen!

Giants could be in human form. It could be spirits. It could be agents. It could be handiwork of darkness. It could be sickness. It could be distraction, affliction, spirit of disappointment, lust after flesh. Name it. But no matter what your giant is, all you need is the boldness, the strategy, the strength, and power of God to confront and defeat them.

For with this power, David confronted Goliath. With this power, Moses confronted Pharaoh. Peter confronted the spirit of fear. Paul confronted his addiction, and they will not fear the size or the consequence of what may happen.

The reason why many people are always afraid of giants is because of their overwhelming posture, because of the trouble they bring, because of the way their giants approach them. Hence the reason I want to tell you that, to confront your giant, you need Jesus and His power. You need Jesus and His wisdom to strategize. You need Jesus to back you up so that long generational battles may come to an end in your own era, somebody.

Without these resources, you will not have what it takes to confront your giant. In Acts 12, Herod stood as a giant towards the disciples, and he killed James just like that, but the people of God did not relent and cried to God. In other words, they confronted their giant with their cry to God.

Haman stood as a giant before the people of Israel, but they also cried to God and the Lord dealt with him.

A set of people could be your own giant, just like they were for Paul in Acts 23:12—those who can decide not to eat nor drink until they see your downfall. You gotta cry to God to give you the right resources, the weapon needed, in Jesus' name.

Death was a giant that Jesus had to conquer. Had it been Jesus did not conquer death, our gospel news today would have been false. Jesus confronted death and overcame death. What is that thing in your life—the battle, the worries, the plague, the problem, the situation? Confront them today in Jesus' name and be free from it.

For on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance (Obadiah 1:17).
